Our Story

Con El Amor de una Familia que Ama y Sirve a SU Pueblo

Family Owned and Operated Since 1997

La Union Supermarket is a Mexican & Latin American grocer that specializes in fresh and rare cuts of meat like arrachera (skirt) steak, cecina (thinly cut beef that is oiled and salted), our homemade pork chorizo, and breaded chicken filets are just a few, and everything is always cut to order. Our produce department has a wide variety of fruits and vegetables that are typical in Latin American cooking like cilantro, papaya, plantains, chayotes and always ripe avocados. We carry many spices that are hard to find in you typical grocer. We use all of the freshest ingredients in the small taquería located inside the store to make the assortment of Mexican eats, from homemade tamales to tacos, burritos and much more.

Meet the Business Owners

Elva & Hilda – Business Owners

One half of the 2 person team at La Union, Elva is the older of the two sisters that began the business in 1997. With a family full of small town business owners, and all of her grandmothers family recipes she decided to continue the tradition here in Highwood. You will most often find Elva in the kitchen cooking all kinds of family recipes including her grandmas homemade refried beans, tamales and rice, always making sure everything is made as authentic and delicious as she remembers when she was growing up. She’s brought the small town feel of her hometown in Chihuahua, Mexico to Highwood and has always made it a priority to meet, greet and get to know her customers as they grow, making them feel like they’re part of her family. Her vision and hard work is what has helped the business grow and remain a part of the Highwood community all these years and hopes to continue the tradition of great service, quality products and authentic recipes for many years to come.
